What is the TMI?

What is a Transportation Management Initiative?

Transportation Management Initiatives (TMIs) are joint public/private efforts established to develop and implement solutions to local traffic congestion problems. TMIs seek to reduce vehicle trips through the promotion of Transportation Demand Management (TDM) initiatives such as carpools, vanpools, shuttle systems, park-n-ride facilities, teleworking, parking management and work hour management programs. TMIs are formed through the cooperative effort of the private sector, local government, regional government and state government to serve a specified geographic area.

In July 2005, the City of Boca Raton developed and implemented a Transportation Management Initiative (TMI) through a partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation’s regional commuter assistance program, South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS).
