Vanpooling

A vanpool is made up of five to fifteen people who share the ride to and from work together in a provided passenger van.  One or more members of the group volunteers to drive with each rider sharing the operating costs.

Vanpooling is ideal for people with longer commutes, with usual distances of at least 15 miles one way.  The longer your commute, the more economical a vanpool tends to be.  In addition, the more riders in the van, the less each rider pays since the costs are shared amongst the group.

The South Florida Vanpool Program:

The City of Boca Raton TMI and South Florida Commuter Services works with the South Florida Vanpool Program  to set up vanpools in Boca Raton.

The South Florida Vanpool Program offers groups of individuals with a new 7, 9, or 15 passenger vehicle.  The average cost of the vehicle (including mileage, insurance, maintenance, and gas) is $1000 - $1800 per month; the Palm Beach County MPO provides each vanpool with a $400 per month subsidy to assist in lowering the cost.  This cost is divided among the number of riders participating in the van.

Benefits of South Florida Vanpool Program:

·         Month-to-Month risk free lease

·         Drivers get to use the van for personal use

·         $1 million dollar insurance policy

·         Roadside assistance

·         Replacement vehicles if necessary

·         Lower commuting costs than driving alone
